"Matthew is a successful architect, although his personal life is a complete mess - he is seperated from his wife and daughter and he is having a desultory affair with an old friend. His life and failure are juxtaposed in this play with his voyage through London, complete with deeply historial flashbacks. This production was recorded mainly on location and is a bit of a must if you love London Town." - TIME OUT
Peter's adaptation of Penelope Lively's best selling novel starred David Troughton, and was produced by Cherry Cookson. First broadcast in June 1998, it was named one of the highlights of the season by James Boyle, Controller, BBC Radio 4 - who described it as an "evocative, densely textured evocation of London's history."
