Based on the thoughts, life, and loves of the German philosopher Novalis, Booker Prize-winning Penelope Fitzgerald's bestselling picaresque novel was adapted by Peter for Radio 4 with a cast featuring Samuel West, John Rowe, Abigail Docherty. Producer: Cherry Cookson.
The novel was Penelope's last, and considered by many to be her masterpiece. Written in 1995, it won the American National Book Critics' Award in 1998. Peter's script of THE BLUE FLOWER is to date the only existing dramatisation of her works, and he considers it particularly important that the play was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1999, shortly before Penelope's death in 2000.
